Software Engineer

British Nationals only. You must either already hold SC or be able to obtain SC

Carbon60 is seeking a talented Software Engineer to join their clients forward-thinking Agile Scrum team based in Newcastle. As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing high-quality, scalable, and easily maintained code using Java and related technologies.

The Software Engineer will be involved in every stage of the software development lifecycle, from initial design through development, testing, and deployment. You will contribute to quality assurance by writing unit and automated tests, and participate in design and code reviews to ensure coding best practices, security, and scalability.

For this position you can be based on either the Newcastle or Guildford site. Which ever site you are based on, there may be occasional travel to the other site.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop reusable patterns and encourage innovation to enhance team velocity
- Contribute to Agile processes, including sprint planning, reviews, and daily stand-ups
- Ensure code is sufficiently documented and share knowledge of implemented solutions
- Work collaboratively with the Scrum team to meet sprint commitments

Qualifications and Skills:

- Proficient in Java and cloud services development
- Experience in unit testing and DevSecOps practices
- Familiarity with container platforms such as Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes
- Desirable skills include Quarkus framework and front-end development using Angular
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to achieve or hold Security Clearance (SC) certification
